Buyer Information

Bidding is easy with Wickliff Auctioneers! We offer multiple options for bidding, including online, phone and absentee bidding options, and in-person bidding for select specialty auctions (where available).

For our online specialty auctions, we usually offer bidding on two different websites, most often using hibid.com and liveauctioneers.com. Hibid.com is connected to our auction management software, and we call that “our” site. The buyer’s premium (a percentage of the bid that is added to the bid and becomes the final, taxable sale price) is lower on

hibid.com because of the fact that listing fees are lower. Hibid generally attracts a domestic, US audience. Live Auctioneers is a worldwide platform that provides global marketing, and reaches a larger audience. As such, listing fees are higher, as is the buyer’s premium.

Bidders can both either “live” (in real time as the auction closes) on either of these platforms, or leave absentee bids ahead of time, which will be executed on the bidder’s behalf. Leaving a maximum bid amount does not mean that the bid will automatically shift to your high bid, rather, the system executes competitively, advancing your bid only as other bids come in, or until you are outbid.

For our Premium Online Estate Sales, we utilize the “soft close” feature on Hibid.com. A soft close means that any item that receives a bid within one minute of closing will extend for an additional minute. As such, a single item may remain open while other items listed after it will continue to close. This is an automated system, and our staff does not manage the closing. Bidders can still leave absentee bids or bid in real time as the item closes, the same as mentioned above. Bidders who have never participated in a soft close auction are encouraged to leave their absentee bids ahead of time and let the system do the work for you. As a registered bidder, however, you can still log in and participate live, if you are outbid.

For all online platforms, the systems will send outbid notices, pre-auction, if you are outbid on a particular item. The system does not generate these notices in a timely manner for live bidding. Following the auction or estate sale, winning bidders will be invoiced with specific instructions regarding payment, pickup and shipping. In most cases, there is a discount on the buyer’s premium for those bidders who pay by cash or check in a designated window of time. We accept all major credit cards, cash, check, wire transfer or Zelle.
Happy bidding!
