CARMEL, IN- Darin Lawson, Auctioneer, CAI/BAS, was awarded the “Silver Sneaker” at the gala of the same name to benefit CHAMP Camp, held May 6 at the Conrad Hotel in Indianapolis.

The Silver Sneaker Ball is held annually to generate funds benefiting the camp, which provides a week-long, summer camp experience for children and adolescents with tracheostomies and those who require technological respiratory assistance. In keeping with the spirit of camp, attendees are encouraged to wear sneakers with black-tie attire. Lawson has served as auctioneer for the gala for several years.

“I’ve always been honored to be a part of this organization,” said Lawson. “Every year, the testimonies you hear from the kids and their parents is so touching, it’s impossible to not feel the need to serve and help.”

The Silver Sneaker award is presented annually to an individual or individuals who have shown extraordinary commitment to the organization, and whose contribution is of great significance. Lawson was caught off-guard when his name was announced, “I’ve seen people whose contributions were so great be recognized in the past; I never considered myself to be in that category. I’m truly honored and humbled by the recognition, but I know that it takes a village to make the camp happen, and I’m blessed to be a small part of that village.”
