Carmel, IN – February 24, 2015- Wickliff & Associates Auctioneers, Inc. is pleased to announce its next auction will feature original art from the estate of Indiana artist Willa Bowen Van Brunt (September 24, 1928 – October 3, 2014).
Van Brunt studied at the University of Illinois, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Butler University, where she received a Master of Science degree. She also studied at Indiana University, the John Herron Art School, the University of Indianapolis, I.U.P.U.I., and the Indiana polis Art League.
Van Brunt had many solo shows, received many prizes and was selected to take part in many juried area, state, regional and national art exhibitions for her work in watercolor, mixed media and photography.
Willa began exhibiting in the Hoosier Salon Art Exhibition Shows in 1977, with seven exhibits through 1990. In the late 1980s, Van Brunt won Merit Awards in the North Coast College Societies National Art Exhibit, and won prizes in the State Pen Women Shows. She was also recognized for her photography, winning the Outstanding Award for Photography in the Indiana Heritage Arts Show in 1987. In addition, she won a Merit Award in the National Miniature Art Exhibit sponsored by the National League of American Pen Women in South Carolina. In 1988, her art was selected by the jury and included in the National Biennial Art Exhibit in Washington D.C.
From the 1990s through 2003, Van Brunt was part of the Hoosier Salon, featuring her mixed media pieces. In 1990, she received an anonymous purchase award for “Northern Slope.” In the 73rd Art Exhibition in 1997, she received jury prize of distinction from the Winthrop Art Gallery for “Currents.” In 1999, she received jury prize of distinction from Mr. and Mrs. Harry Riser and Mr. Don Kramer for “Textural Patterns I,” which is included in the auction at Wickliff Auctioneers on February 28th.
Van Brunt’s art is represented by the Museum Rental Galleries of Indiana and Nevada. In addition, her work is listed in The Chicago Art Review, an illustrated survey of the Chicago area museums, galleries and leading artists.
During her lifetime as an artist, Willa was a member of several art societies, including a Signature Member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana and Nevada Watercolor Society. She was also a Fellow of the Indianapolis Art League and belonged to the Brown County Art Gallery Association, Hoosier Salon, Indiana Federation of Art Clubs, Indiana Artists Craftsman, Artist Guild of Indiana, Coalition of Indianapolis Artist, Indianapolis Museum of Art, National League of American Pen Women, Art & Design Alumni of the University of Illinois, Indiana Heritage Arts, and more.
